116 MacDougal (Gaslight Cafe Movie coming 2019)

Rock Junket is thrilled to know one of our favorite sites on our Greenwich Village tour, the Gaslight, will be the subject of a major motion picture. 116 MacDougal will begin filming this summer. The movie will feature the life of Gaslight owner and Village entrepreneur and resident eccentric John Mitchell, through his life as club owner, womanizer, weapons carrier and stand up guy. And he stood up indeed, to NYC authorities who wouldn’t grant permits for a beatnik hangout, and Mafia street teams, who threatened him with violence. The Gaslight remains iconic.
